We are using a reading and writing program called Mondo.

- What is a “just right” book for my child?
- A “just right” book is one students can decode, and understand.
- Students are taught to:
- preview the cover of a book
- read the book summary on the back
- take a “walk” through a book
- open to the middle of a book and read a page
- 1-2 mistakes means the book is probably too easy
- 2-3 mistakes means the book is probably just right
- 4-5 mistakes means the book is probably too hard
- 1-2 mistakes means the book is probably too easy
- after reading a few pages, stop to think about word meaning and plot
- a “just right” text + good comprehension = a “just right” book
- A “just right” book is one students can decode, and understand.
